Collectable Perfume Bottles

Not just the domain of glass. The history of perfume bottles show that many different materials were used to manufacture perfume bottles.

During the 18th century enamel perfume bottles were the designer perfume bottle of choice. The designers of these bottles, including William Beilby and the Homer Brother’s work is highly regarded and seen as a rare collectable today.

A shift to porcelain was seen during the middle of the 18th century. These bottles were highly detailed and usually modelled after humans or animals.

It’s interesting to note that both the enamel and porcelain bottles were mass-produced by Samson of Paris during the 19th century. These imitation bottles were popular at the time and are even collected today as there is a lack of an original sample of both the enamel and porcelain variety.

The later part of the 19th century saw another shift towards ceramic and glass being fused together to imitate ivory.
